Fitness thread 2020
Anyone remember the old fitness thread where people could ask the forum experts any questions they had? Let’s start one for 2020.

I’m doing three months off the booze as need a break and I’m gradually moving from about 8 fags a day to a vape. 40 this year so need to sort my life out. Used to be in the gym 5/6 days a week but haven’t done anything for a few years.

I will start - does the 5x5 system really work?

Been waiting for this to pop up! I have been threatening to start CrossFit for the last few years! This is the year... I hope. Got a running club near me doing a beginners course from this week. That’s me also!

I had a triple by-pass op in May 2018, and after the associated rehab, I got onto the "Couch to 5k", around October '18.
Up to half marathons now.

Can definitely recommend that app and scheme as a starting point.

Are you a homosexual? If so, Crossfit is for you.

Azel. The logical thought is that they follow a similar system and set you homework as it was.

CrossFit looks good fun and pretty hardcore

Re: Fitness thread 2020
Crossfit is both those things but not for the novice.

if there is an 'on ramp' course make sure you do it.
if you have any back problems stay away from it.

5x5 will work if you are looking for build strength and muscle. obviously it needs to go hand-in-hand with progression and a calorie surplus (if you wanna put on size).

CrossFit is for rapists, paedo's and nonces, without exception.

might be worth whomailing Eddie B for advice.

Definitely looks like Boltkunt regularly gets his vagina sweaty in a crossfit class.

Re: Fitness thread 2020
Also turning 40 this year, always trained but last year was the worse year due to a serious injury and some personal stuff.

I’ve started getting back to 4/5 days a week and my new approach is just to go.

I fancied going relatively heavy yesterday so did 5x5 bench, overhead press, squat, dead and row.

Other days I’ll do legs, then upper body, a total body or a cardio/boxing or circuit day.

Finding that has got me right back into it, because I’m training what and how I want rather than a bro split where I dread shoulders or legs or whatever.

I throw 10-20 mins cardio into every session and try to keep the rest periods when lifting to a minimum, in and out the gym in around 50 minutes, no time wasted.

I’ve got the buzz back for it, just got to improve the diet a bit now which is always the toughest part.

40 last year.

Managed to crawl around a half marathon which was my goal and have another lined up; not a big runner, but good to have a goal in sight.

Also started doing Yoga once a week which for me has been a game changer. 20 years sitting at a desk for 10 hours a day is not good for the body....if you have not tried it give it a go. That first session was one of the hardest things i have ever done.

look forward to getting this thread started. I like the gym, but clearly like my food even more.... let me be the first to say; a six pack is made in the kitchen not in the gym :)

Re: Fitness thread 2020
If anyone wants to have a go at a half marathon for the first time, there is one in Paddock Wood, Kent in April that pretty much flat all the way.
Well organised as well.

`I’m doing three months off the booze as need a break`

I know it's early days yet but surely this has to be gayest thread of the year contender for 2020??

Re: Fitness thread 2020
Went for a run yesterday and it was pathetic, need to get my shit together. That Paddock Wood half sounds decent actually, just down the road, may sign up.
